History and Aims
A Sheffield United Cricket Club was first formed to ensure the building and management of the ground at Bramall Lane that had been acquired for the purpose of cricket. They were a collection of men from seven different clubs in Sheffield but a team representing Sheffield United did not form for another 40 years. The ground was regularly used for Yorkshire representative games and an England v Australia Ashes Test match was played at Bramall Lane in 1902, the visitors winning by 143 runs.
The first United side played in 1892, the same year that the football club achieved election to the Football League, 24 years after Wednesday FC had first played there! The aims of the club were certainly noble ones, in that the club were "…to develop cricketing talent in Sheffield and the surrounding districts."

These aims are still held today, with the development of young players to support the senior teams never more prevalent than in 2007, with several u17 and u15s playing in the Yorkshire League. This was mirrored further down the club and the 4th XI, playing in the Sheffield League, is the perfect start to senior cricket for players at u13 level, supported by experienced players who delight in watching this talent develop.
The indoor school is made full use of, with training sessions every week for all teams, whether good or poor weather, the club continues to develop its pool of talent and looks forward to a successful season in 2008.
