Tradition continues
Following in the footsteps of their 2007 and 2008 peers, this year's u15s have won the Sheffield & district Cup and have progressed through to the national finals. Having defeated Whiston by 10 wkts, Hallam by 7 wkts, and Aston Hall by 67 runs, they faced Eckington, at Eckington in the regional final. The home team were brushed aside, as Ali Jahangir and Joe Tetley formed a superb opening partnership and allowed the rest to attack the bowling when needed. Joe finished on 40, Ali retired on 50* and the total at 121-4 from a reduced 18 overs.
Eckington never really got going against tight United bowling, with Lewis Hobbs, Luqman Asad and Asad Ali all starring alongside Ali Jahangir. Backed up by good fielding, Eckington crumbled to 37 all out giving United the trophy by 84 runs
The side have progressed further having beaten Guiseley, the West Yorkshire champions in a thrilling game in Leeds. Having made a poor start batting first, United retained the composure, setting a target which they defended stoutly to proceed by just 9 runs. The side are now looking to emulate the 2008 side who won the county final. Finals day is at Hartshead Moor Cricket club on Sunday June 27th. Good luck lads !!
