Sheffield United Spinners is the Disability section of the club, it was first formed in July 2010 when Tony Postle and John Housley started supporting the Sheffield Association of Disabilities. The Association meets at the club on Wednesday throughout the year.
We were successful in getting an "Aim High" grant from Rotherham Council to go into Special Educational Needs (SEN) and mainstream schools in the Rotherham area. All this with a view to helping the community and attracting more cricketers to join the Spinners.
Last Summer we held finals for the Rotherham and Sheffield area with the winners progressing to the Yorkshire Disability festival held at Headingley, Leeds. The winner of the Yorkshire final was Bents Green school who had won through to represent the Sheffield area.
We are now in the process of arranging to visit six schools from Sheffield and possibly six from Rotherham. Most of these are SEN schools. We hope to be able to organise a squad of players to represent SU Spinners as a South Yorkshire Academy.
